RELOCATION DURING LOCKDOWN
On 6 May 2020, the Minister of COGTA, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, issued directions regarding the relocation of persons and goods to new residential addresses during the lockdown period.
In terms of the directions, persons and goods may relocate to new residential addresses, if it is required due to:
- A new lease agreement was entered into before or during the lockdown period; or
- Immoveable property has been transferred before the lockdown period.
Persons will be allowed to transport themselves and their household furniture and effects in a once-off movement between 7 May 2020 and 7 June 2020.
Movement across provincial, municipal or district boundaries will be allowed subject to the following:
- A permit must be obtained from the station commander of the closest police station (or his/her delegate);
- The permit must indicate all the persons in the household that will be required to relocate; and
- The person must have in his/her possession the old lease agreement indicating the expiry date thereof, and the new lease agreement indicating the commencement date; or the transfer documentation indicating the change of ownership and residence.
